Eco Friendly Products
It really IS easy being green
With all of the interest about environmental impact, and the
general consensus to "go green", the task of becoming
eco-friendly can seem overwhelming. Where do you begin? How will
it impact my daily routine? Will I have to sacrifice quality
for the environment? It is actually very easy to begin using
eco-friendly products. In fact, you can start with your daily
routine. It is just a matter of learning what types of products
and goods to look for and choosing the most eco-friendly option.
One of the easiest ways to incorporate
eco-friendly products into your lifestyle is to take a look at
your beauty routine. Many of your favorite companies are now
producing more eco-friendly formulations and packaging. You can
begin looking for labels that say "organic", which
means some of the ingredients used have been harvested and processed
using more natural methods. You can also look for more eco-friendly
packaging. For example, some manufacturers have begun to phase
out excess packaging and inserts, so your favorite tube of eye
cream now comes without a fancy box or plastic package. For items
that do have extra packaging, look for "recycled" or
"biodegradable" printed on the outside. Many items
that come in plastic containers can now be recycled. Some companies
even offer you discounts or freebies if you bring in your empty
containers for recycling.
You can also be more eco-friendly by choosing products that
have reusable cases which you can refill; you purchase a case
for your pressed powder, and rather than throwing away the whole
thing when you're done, you just pay for the pan of powder and
use the same compact. Often, as an added bonus, using reusable
packaging for beauty products is cheaper since you are not paying
for fancy packaging. Even your beauty tools can become eco-friendly.
Look for makeup applicators and brushes that are made with natural
or synthetic fibers that also have handles made from recycled
or renewable resources. These brushes work just as well and can
be a great eco-friendly investment.
Another way to incorporate eco-friendly products into your
lifestyle is to begin to look at the cleaning products you use.
Many of the most common household cleaners are being reformulated
and redesigned to become more eco-friendly. Some companies are
beginning to sell concentrated forms of your favorite products
so that you use less product to get the same cleaning power.
Like beauty brands, many household cleaners are being packaged
so that the bottle is reusable and you just need to purchase
refills that cut down on the packaging. Formulations are being
changed so that the ingredients used are more eco-friendly. Ingredients
are derived from natural and non-toxic sources, which make them
better for the environment, but also added confidence that the
products will not harm pets or children. This is excellent news
for adults and children with sensitivities to chemicals; the
more eco-friendly formulations seem to cause less reactions do
to the absence of toxins.
Another eco-friendly modification is begin using reusable
micro-fiber cloths or specially made cloths to clean rather than
paper towels. Many of the new specially made towels clean better
than paper towels because they are made to be lint-free, streak-free,
and safe for scratchable surfaces. These cloths are designed
to be used for cleaning, then washed and reused instead of ending
up in a landfill. Paying attention to packaging and formulations
will help you easily "go green".
Choosing eco-friendly products does not mean you need to sacrifice
quality or convenience, it just means you are taking a closer
look at you're the products you use. Companies are making it
easier than ever to "go green". By simply looking for
eco-friendly labels and packaging, you can feel good about your
choices.
